Thanks Brett. If the government gets their way with performance based pay, this will be a big problem.

Hey Wes,

Well I must apologise for the "old boy" comment... It was a sweeping statement not true of all traditional schools. My observation of too many schools in all different types of sectors is the concept of preping for the test better than anyone else equating to the best education!!

Hi Brett - keep the fire burning! It is amazing really how IWBs have become so central to what people consider is must have for schools. Marketing I guess. They do up engagement which has all the flow ons for learning, but maybe 'does it improve results' is the wrong question, as you point out this wasn't asked regarding whiteboards...

Hi Brett
Interesting points you have raised and I agree with you for most part about the IWB's I often say that we should not seek what wise men have sought but seek WHY they sought it in the first place.

I do think you have generalized about the old boy school. I took offense at that because it simply has not taken place in the 6 "old boy" schools I have worked at. By saying that you putting yourself in the same crowd of the marketers from Promethean. Don't dumb us down like that.

Whiteboard were replaced because of several reasons - some of which were quite legitimate (asthma - 1 in 9 students in Queensland has it http://www.asthmaqld.org.au/content/?id=16 )

But they still require the teacher to be constantly at the front of the room, and pedagogy was entirely teacher-centered.

I don't think it is a IWB V's 1 to 1 argument. Nor will either make our day easier. It is simply something that will have to place out in the years to come. Hopefully sanity will prevail.
